Mother in Law Taboo - A custom in some Indian tribes of forbidding a man to speak to his wife's mother or look upon her face. Nor could he enter the same house his mother in law was in. Among the Navajo, the mother in law wore small bell earrings which tinkled a warning to her son in law. The mother in law taboo is still preserved on some Indian reservations, and it is a practice found in many parts of the world. |
