Algonquian Family - One of the eight chief language groups of Indians in the United States, which formerly occupied a greater area than any other in North America.  Their territory reached from the eastern shore of Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains and from the Churchill River in Canada to Pamlico Sound in North Carolina.
