Milly
- The story of Captain John Smith and Pocahontas was relived in that of
an American named Duncan McKrimmon and Milly, beautiful daughter of a Seminole
chief.
McKrimmon was captured in 1817 and ordered
burned to death, but as the fire was lit, Milly fell on her knees before
her father, Hillis Hadjo, and begged for the white man's life. She
threatened to throw herself into the flames unless her request was granted.
Old Hadjo ordered McKrimmon released and
then sold him as a slave to the Spaniards, who gave him his liberty.
Later Milly was captured by American soldiers and McKrimmon offered to
marry her. But Milly felt he did this only out of gratitude, and
refused. When freed she married an Indian.
