Crockett, David
- Famous American hunter, trapper, and Indian Fighter. He
was born in Green County, Tennessee, August 17, 1786. At an early
age he became an expert "b'ar hunter," and had many thrilling experiences
killing ferocious bears. he learned woodcraft from friendly Indians
and when the Creek War started in 1813 he enlisted under General Andrew
Jackson as a scout and guide.
Davy Crockett mixed in politics for a time,
then finding life too dull, headed west to Texas. He joined the Texans
in their fight for freedom from Mexican rule, and lost his life as one
of the stanch defenders of the Alamo at San Antonio on March 6, 1836
