Bowstring
- the string on a bow which springs the bow and sends forth the arrow.
Indians made their bowstrings from sinew, rawhide, and twisted vegetable
fiber. Bears' guts too, made strong bowstrings, and southern indians
preferred squirrel hide. One end of the bowstring was tied fast to
the end of one wing of the bow and the other end of the string was made
into a loop which could be slipped up to engage the nock on the other wing
when the bow was to be sprung.
