Wyoming - The name of a state which was taken from that of a Lenape village in Pennsylvania called M'cheuwomink, meaning "Upon the Great Plain."  The native became Chiwaumuc, Wiawamic, Wayomic, Waiomink, and finally Wyoming.  By this time it was supposed to mean "Field of Blood."  It is not known who suggested the name for the state, but it was probably some emigrant of Pennsylvania.
