Taensa - a tribe of Indians who at one time lived in southern Louisiana.  They were noted for their peculiar customs, which were similar to those of the Natchez.  The early French reported that they practiced human sacrifice.  Their name was given to a parish, a river, and a bayou in Louisiana, and to a river and a village in Alabama.  the tribe is believed to be extinct.
