- An Algonquian tribe of Indians believed to have been the first on the
northeast coast of America to have been encountered by the white man.
It is thought the Norse voyagers met them around 1000 A.D.
in 1497 Sebastian Cabot visited them and carried three of the tribe back
to England. Among their closest relatives were the Abnaki.
The Micmac today are in Canada.
