Lo -
A poetical name for the Indian, which came from Alexander Pope's lines:
"Lo, the poor Indian! whose untutored mind/Sees God in the clouds and hears
him in the wind." The Indian was sometimes called "Poor Lo," a name
he was perfectly right in not liking.
