Jesuits - Priests of a Roman Catholic order.  French Jesuits were among the first to come in contact with the northern tribes of American Indians.  They lived among the Indians, observing them at first hand and reporting on Indian life to their superiors in Paris.  Their writings, assembled in the Jesuit Relations, are one of the best reference sources on the early Indian.
