Bury the Hatchet - An expression used to mean that peace has been made between tribes or between the white man and Indian.  the expression is said to have come from the custom of inserting the blade of the pipe tomahawk in the ground before lighting the pipe.  These pipe tomahawks were traded to Indians by the white man.
