Atakapa
- An extinct tribe of Indians, belonging to the Siouan language family.
They occupied the region near middle or Prien Lake in Louisiana.
Their name in Choctaw meant "Man-Eaters," and they were said to have been
cannibals, because they and some of the tribes to the west of them ate
the flesh of their enemies.
